Each year at Leave No Victim Behind, we have focused on a secondary theme or topic closely related to serving victims of mass violence. In 2018, we featured a Tribal Response Panel that shared its response to the Red Lake Reservation High School Shooting.
Consistent with our Cold Case Theme this year, we are sounding the alarm related to Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIW). The MMWI crisis is a serious public health and safety issue that disproportionately affects Indigenous women and girls. The rates of violence against Indigenous women and girls are significantly higher than those experienced by non-Indigenous women.
