SERVING WITH LOVE, CARE, AND COMPASSION

Each year at Leave No Victim Behind, we have focused on a secondary theme or topic closely related to serving victims of mass violence. In 2018, we featured a Tribal Response Panel that shared its response to the Red Lake Reservation High School Shooting. 

Consistent with our Cold Case Theme this year, we are sounding the alarm related to Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIW). The MMWI  crisis is a serious public health and safety issue that disproportionately affects Indigenous women and girls. The rates of violence against Indigenous women and girls are significantly higher than those experienced by non-Indigenous women. 

At Leave No Victim Behind, we feel it is important to:

1. Raise awareness about the MMIW crisis and its root causes.
2. Improve law enforcement practices and accountability in cases involving Indigenous victims.
3. Support community-based programs that provide services to Indigenous women and girls.

By working together, we can address the MMIW crisis and create a safer and more just world for Indigenous women and girls.
